It is also used to treat symptoms of an ulcer and to prevent recurrence of erosasis in non-erosive patients. Nexium is available as a generic medication along with tablets and capsules. Nexium 40 mg is a brand name of esomeprazole, which is used as a preventative measure against ulcers and other stomach problems. It is also used to prevent heartburn and other problems from developing. Nexium is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) which is used to treat GERD and may cause it to develop stomach acid if you do not take it at the same time as taking a PPI. You will start or gradually build up to the medication and continue to take it 1 time a day. Call your doctor in-person if you experience chest pain, feeling dizzy for no apparent reason, ringing in the ear, feeling or being sick (nausea), experiencing chest pain, feeling confused, feeling very confused, feeling sick to your stomach. Nexium (Esomeprazole) may cause bone pain, swelling, or tenderness. Call your doctor in-person if you experience a feeling, sensation, numbness, tingling, burning, blistering or loosening of the skin, or if you develop skin rash, peeling or loosening of the skin, feeling or being sick, skin rash with peeling, or burning rash while taking Nexium (Esomeprazole).
